William and Mary (Singleton) Hoy

This is my great great great grandfather William Henry Hoy with his second wife, Mary EA Singleton.  She went by Aunt Bett so I am guessing the E stands for Elizabeth, but I am just guessing.  So this next part might be a little hard to follow, but it is kind of interesting so stay with me here.  William Thomas and Cleopatra (Hoy) Singleton were my great great grandparents.  William Henry Hoy, above, is my 3rd great grandfather, Cleo's father.  Mary Singleton, above, is William Thomas Singleton's sister.  It is all in the family!!

William T. and Cleo (Hoy) Singleton

This is my great great grandfather William Thomas Singleton and my great great grandmother Cleopatra Hoy. This picture was sent to me years ago and I am sorry that I do not remember who it was that sent it.  If the person who sent it finds this, I will definitely give you credit if you contact me.

The back of the picture says:  William T. Singleton and wife and their family only two missing Willie and Pearl.  The names of these are Jim (great grandfather), Frannie, Tom, Lula, Ruth, Leslie, Blanche, Lee.

I do not have many pictures of the Singleton side - at least this far back.

The baby is my great grandmother, making her parents my great great grandparents.  After typing all of this I realized that this picture is over 100 years old.  It has aged well all things considering.

James Mason and Zada (Meeker) Singleton

I have grown to love this picture of my great grandparents James and Zada and their family.  I was not able to figure out everyone in the picture, but my cousin Carolyn Carter says, " Lisa..I'll list them the best I can. First, Lois, my Grpa James, Oren, my Grma Zada, Richard, Jean, Donald, Clifton...my Dad. Missing are Alfred and Mervin. I've got a copy of this photo too."  James "Oren" Singleton is my paternal grandfather.

Where to start?

I’ve been going to the Family History Library at our Branch with my Father-in-law the last few months.  It has been rewarding and challenging learning how to do Family History on the internet.  In an effort to learn how to do it better I came across a video called Genealogy Boot Camp on Family Search.  It had never occurred to me to use Facebook and Blogging as a tool.  I have many pictures I would love to share and some that need to be identified.  I’m also hoping that others will share with me so that I can also share that here as well.

Technology can be an amazing thing.  Especially when it brings families closer together.

But where to start?  Like everyone else I know I am a busy person.  So, I think, I will start slowly.  Over time I should develop quite a collection.  I wanted to be VERY organized, that is why it has taken me a few weeks to actually start.  However, I don’t think there will be any rhyme or reason to my posts, but hopefully I will be able to tag them as I go so that you can find exactly what you are looking for.

My four main lines are Singleton, Cunningham, Mickish and Street.  Meeker is also huge because that is my great grandmother and she collected A LOT of pictures and newspaper articles.

I hope this adventure is as fun for you as it is for me.
